Ask Better Questions About a P&L

A useful AI analysis starts with source figures and a clear question. It ends with a review you can explain.

Start with a fictional or approved anonymised P&L. Specify the reporting period, units and column meanings. Ask the AI tool to use only supplied figures and show its calculations.

In the classroom example, revenue moves from ₹100 lakh to ₹120 lakh and direct costs from ₹65 lakh to ₹78 lakh. Gross profit rises from ₹35 lakh to ₹42 lakh. Revenue growth is 20%, while gross margin remains 35%.

Those figures describe what changed. They do not explain why. Ask what additional evidence would distinguish changes in price, volume or product mix, rather than accepting a confident guess.

Before circulating commentary, compare every figure and calculation with the source. Separate observations, possible explanations and questions for management.
